A Backyard Wedding With Friends and Family in Upstate New York

A New York Love Story: All About Kaila and Drew's Intimate and Fun Backyard Wedding

After 9 years together, Drew and Kaila finally tied the knot at their aunt's property in Upstate New York. But their story actually starts when they were children- 3rd grade to be exact. Kaila was best friends with Drew's cousin and all three often played together as kids. Some years go by and then on Kaila's 21st birthday, Drew delivered the pizza. And Kaila couldn't help but think, and tell everyone around her, how hot the pizza guy was!

Two years later, they both were celebrating Drew's aunt's birthday, and Drew put on the moves. And a few years after that, Drew proposed (well...he kneeled and may have needed some prompting. More about that below!) The rest, as you can say, is history!

Getting married in Upstate New York was not their Plan A wedding. Originally, Kaila and Drew had planned an epic destination wedding in the Outer Banks North Carolina, but due to COVID, the big party they had planned was cancelled. They quickly pivoted, found me and other vendors through Instagram and family, and planned the best wedding ever - all within a month! So, yes, it IS possible to plan an amazing wedding within a month of getting married.

Tell us about your adventurous proposal.

It was perfection! We were at the Blarney Castle & Gardens in Ireland. I was sipping on a hot chocolate & Bailey's, walking over a bridge where two rivers meet. There was an epic view behind us of Blarney Castle. I noticed Drew was not with me and turned around. He was down on one knee and silent 🤣 . I finally asked if he was going to say anything and his response was "I thought I was". Not to worry though, he quickly followed this up saying he would love me forever and asked me to marry him.

What was the inspiration of your wedding day?

Fun! We just wanted to have plain, simple, fun. And we definitely accomplished that!

What was your favorite moment of the day?

While we so missed being able to have everyone we originally invited at the wedding due to COVID, the shortened guest list allowed us to be able to spend quality time and live and breathe in each moment with every single person there - without feeling rushed and overwhelmed. It was truly special being able to feel and take in all of the emotion (laughter, tears & love).

If you could do it all over again, would you do anything different?

While I am sure the original wedding we planned would have been amazing, I am so glad we had a chance to replan ours and do it the way we did. We did what was previously a year full of planning, in a month and it was so worth it!

Any advice for other couples planning their wedding?

Don't over think it. Don't stress over it. At the end of the day - it will be one of the best days of your life - no matter what went right or what went wrong!

Congratulations, you two!
